"Well then I'll continue to do this.. give people a place to hide and feel safe, even if it would just be for a little while," Amelinda said, nodding her head decisively. "And as long as I'm helping someone then I know that I've done something worthwhile in my life and I wouldn't care what they did to me," she told him. That was how she had always been, though. She didn't care about what happened to herself as long as she was able to help those who needed it.

Jonas shook his head, smiling again. He found himself smiling much more now than he had in weeks. It felt weird..and he felt like he shouldn't be the least bit happy right now..not with his sisters and mother in some camp while he was free. They could even be dead, though that was more freedom than even he had. He closed his eyes a moment before opening them again, studying her.
"You are a very strange woman," he commented, "So selfless..you don't even care what happens to you. Even I can't manage that.." He looked at her with that different look in his deep brown eyes, a bit of a spark coming back to them.

Amelinda was facing him and she caught the smile and smiled herself slightly. "Well, I guess that's just one of my flaws then. I was raised to believe that I can do anything I want to do, be anything I want to be.. and I guess I just believe that if I can do anything then nothing will stand in my way. Nothing will be able to bring me down," she said with a slight shrug.
She turned back to the food, taking it off the stove. She looked up briefly as Johanna came back in and handed Jonas his jacket with the star sewn back on. Amelinda hesitated a moment before stepping away from the food. "I'm going to go tell mutti that supper is ready," she announced, leaving the kitchen to go find her mother.

"I really wouldn't call it a flaw," he stated, "It's a good thing really, it makes you a good person," he said quietly. He gave her another brief smile. "Your parents raised you well, thinking like that. My father told my sisters they could do anything. My oldest was about to go to university before all this.." He shook his head, "She was going to get a good job afterward...She also had a man ready to ask for her hand.." He sighed quietly, shutting up on the subject though.
He drew a deep breath, taking in the smell of the stew, smiling faintly before looking at Johanna as she returned. He took his jacket, "Thank you," he said quietly, draping the jacket over the back of his seat. He nodded to what Amelinda said, leaning back.

Amelinda was smiling to herself as she went to find her mother. She traveled upstairs to her mother's room, knocking softly to tell her that supper was ready. She headed back downstairs after a minute, smiling still. She returned to the kitchen, sitting down in a seat across from Jonas as Johanna moved to set the table. She looked at Jonas, remembering what he had said before she left. "Your sister was lucky to have had somebody wanting to ask for her hand. I somehow manage to chase all my suitors away," she said, though she had a glint in her eyes that made it seem as if she purposely chased them away.
Johanna had nodded to Jonas when he thanked her and started with her kitchen duties, cleaning up after Amelinda and getting clean dishes out to set the table. She proceeded to do so once Amelinda got back, setting the table quickly and efficiently.

Jonas stayed silent while he waited for Amelinda to return, helping Johanna briefly to set the table before Amelinda came back and he was sitting down again. He slowly nodded, "I'm sure they'd be married by now if he hadn't been taken away in one of the round ups," he stated. He shook his head slight, smirking, "Chase them away huh? How's that even possible?" he asked her. He paused, "Actually..I think it's quite understandable why they'd get out of it while they could," he added now, teasing though.

Amelinda chuckled softly, shaking her head some at his teasing. "I was awful to them. They were all family friends and I just wasn't interested so I would think of ways to scare them off. Most of them worked, too." She frowned briefly at that. "My way of thinking was that if any of them stuck it out and still wanted to be with me then maybe they weren't so bad. Maybe they were interested in me and not just who my family knew or they wanted to be with me not just because our parents were trying to set it up together." she shrugged. "Obviously, none of them passed that little test.."
Amelinda's mother joined them in the kitchen, taking her seat at the table. She looked at Jonas and smiled. "How lovely that you're still here."

He smiled slightly, "That's a good test I guess," he said after a moment. "Though I don't know, what all did you do to them?" he asked, smiling still. "If a girl really tries, no matter how much I like them, I'd probably bail.." He gave a shrug, "That short period is my test on how they'll be later.." He fell silent, thinking about this. He'd had plenty of girls after him, though none had really attracted him that much, they were all dull, and..normal. They all wanted to be normal women, he wanted someone that strived to be more than that. More than just a woman who sat at home, taking care of the house and children.
He looked to her mother, giving her a quick smile, "I may be staying longer than I'd thought at first, if that's alright with you, ma'am.."

Amelinda shook her head slightly, smiling slightly though. "Well there was one time.. I, well 'accidentally' spilled hot soup on one of them. Another time I just acted very clingy and reliant and just plain stupid." She grinned sheepishly. "Needless to say neither of them liked that very much and they stopped trying to woo me after that." She looked at her mother for a minute as she started eating then looked back at Jonas. "Well, from your test, how would those ladies have been later?" she asked him.
Amelinda's mother listened to their conversation, but really found no interest in it. She nodded to Jonas, though. "That's fine, dear, I don't mind at all. Stay as long as you would like to."

Jonas smiled faintly. He really wouldn't have stayed to woo her further if she had spilled hot soup on him and acted that way. Well, maybe he would if she had spilled hot soup on him, as long as she hadn't acted dumb and such as well. He shook his head slightly, eyeing her, "Well, let's see, they were clingy, reliant and plain stupid, which makes me believe that's how they'll be the rest of their lives. So it really never worked out," he stated with a nod.
He looked to her mother, "Thank you, ma'am," he said with another of his smiles.

"Clingy, reliant, and plain stupid. So that should work from now on.." Amelinda said, grinning slightly. "If I had known that the first time I wouldn't have bothered with the soup. Well, at least now I know," she said, smiling briefly. She ate some of her stew, thinking silently for a minute. She swallowed, opening her mouth to speak again. "So what do you look for in a girl then?" she asked him curiously.
Her mother nodded her head, falling silent as she ate, still listening to their conversation.

He smiled some, "The soup was just an added touch that could work. Maybe the guy will think you can't take care of him if you can't even carry soup without spilling it," he stated with a shrug. "So you could still do that if you wanted." He took a few bites of stew, complimenting it before he thought about her question. "Well, she needs to be intelligient, independent, she needs to be able to take care of herself if she needs to," he stated. He frowned some, "She needs to have more goals than just having children and taking care of the house.."

Amelinda nodded her head slowly. "So has anyone even met those requirements in the slightest?" she asked him. "If you're still hungry let me know, I can get you more stew," she added after a moment. She was nearly finished with her own and while she wasn't hungry now he might still be. "And I promise I won't spill it on you," she told him, grinning slightly. "I don't think I ever want kids," she said after a while. She caught the appalled look her mother sent her way and sighed. "Not yet anyway. I'd be a horrible mother at this point in my life.."

Jonas slowly smiled, giving a slight shrug, "Hm..maybe one..or two," he responded, "Slightly." He looked at her as he finished off the rest of his stew, nodding slightly, "Thank you." He cleaned out his bowl, "If I could have some more, that'd be great, and I'm glad it won't be spilt on me," he stated. He smiled at her, shifting, "I want kids once I'm married. It'd be great to be a father.."

Amelinda nodding, setting her spoon down as she stood up. She took his bowl from him and got him more stew. She returned to the table, handing his stew to him carefully. "I think you'd be a good father," she said to him with another nod. "How old are you anyway?" she asked. She wasn't one to just be polite and ask non-intruding questions. If she wanted to know something she would just ask it.
