He watched her cut up the vegetables again, frowning some as he listened to her. Her father was out on a trip. He felt somewhat better about that, and if her mother was like her he felt somewhat better about staying here. He studied her a moment, washing his hands. "I don't know, maybe I will," he said finally, glancing at her briefly. He moved closer to her, pulling out the yellow star from his jacket then.
He moved it between his hands. It'd probably be best to get it sewed back on. He doubted that he'd have such good luck next time he was found without it, whenever he left. He slipped off his jacket then too, glancing at her again. "Are you good with a needle and thread?" he asked her after moment, deciding to do just as she had told the soldier, that she'd sew the star back onto his jacket for him.

Amelinda nodded as she finished cutting up the vegetables she needed. "Alright, it's entirely up to you," she said to him. She was still obviously affected by what he had said to her a few moments ago and was trying not to try too hard. She cleaned off the knife and put all the vegetables into a pot on the stove, deciding she was going to make stew that night.
She looked at the star in his hand then the jacket and blushed a light pink, slowly shaking her head. "I'm horrible with a needle and thread. I would never sit still and usually wound up stabbing myself and throwing the needle to the floor. Johanna is excellent with a needle and thread, though," she said, smiling at the thought of the elderly servant who was like a second mother to her. "I can have her sew it back on for you."

Jonas smiled faintly as he saw her blush. "What sort of lady cannot manage to sew?" he questioned, though he was teasing her, amazingly enough , yes, he was actually teasing. He shook his head, "My mother forced my sisters to learn and excel in it. She would make them do more work if they slacked on it," he stated, smiling briefly again as he thought of his family, eyes brightening, before fading again just as quickly.
He nodded, deciding this Johanna had to be a servant. He put the star back into his pocket, watching Amelinda, "Where is this Johanna then?" he asked her, glancing around briefly. He wasn't used to a house with so many servants, his mother had only ever allowed two, one to help her and one to help his father, who had started to serve Jonas once his father had disappeared.

Amelinda had caught the teasing tone in his words and smiled to herself. "Well what kind of a gentleman would call a lady out on something like that?" she teased back. "Though, nobody ever said I was a lady in that sense of the word." She listened to him talk about his family, looking thoughtful. "Your mother sounds like a hard taskmaster," she commented. "Maybe my mother should have had her teach me instead of the old bat she brought in," she muttered, making a slight face at the memories.
She watched him as he put the star back in his pocket, listening closely to what he was asking. "Well, I think she's buying groceries right now, but she should be back any moment. She always helps me prepare the food. As soon as she comes back I'll have her sew that on for you," she told him, offering him a slight smile.

He smiled slightly as she returned the teasing, "Only a gentleman that cares," he responded with a faint shrug. "Though, I suppose you'll be able to afford to hire a person to do the sewing for you..once you marry some rich husband," he stated. He gave another shrug, "My mother had to drill the information into them, so they'd be able to take care of their own household, though I suppose now, those skills are being put to use helping those Nazis," he mumbled.
He slowly nodded, "Thank you," he responded quietly, moving away from her again, his hand brushing against her as he pushed back from the counter. He returned to the table, sinking down into a seat again.

Amelinda frowned slightly as he spoke about marrying somebody rich. she shook her head at that. "I don't plan on marrying some rich person. My parents want me to, of course, but I won't let them get their way with that. I'd much rather marry somebody like you than some rich.. jerk.." she mumbled, gripping onto the counter tightly.
She turned her head, watching as he sat down again, a light blush dusting her cheeks again when his hand brushed hers. "You're welcome.." she said quietly.

He watched her, smiling slightly, "Somebody like me?" he repeated then shrugged some, "I was one of those rich jerks once..well maybe not the jerk part, but my family was well off," he stated. "I started schooling to become a doctor, like my father, but never got to finish.." He shifted as he made himself comfortable in the seat, seeing the blush creep to her cheeks. He smiled to himself, watching her a moment before looking around the kitchen.

"Well, I didn't know you then and I like you well enough now, so we won't worry about that," Amelinda said to him. She turned back to the food, making sure everything was fine and just to busy herself with doing something so she didn't stare at Jonas. "I always wanted to be a doctor.. I would always bring in hurt animals and help them recuperate," she told him to make conversation.
She looked up as a dirty blonde haired woman bustled into the kitchen, bringing lots of groceries with her. She was older looking than Amelinda, but not too much. Amelinda didn't really know her real age, just knew that the woman was a few years older than her. "Jonas this is Johanna," she said as she turned around to help the woman put the groceries away. "Johanna, I need you to sew something for Jonas." Johanna looked at Jonas briefly and nodded. "Whatever you wish madam."

He smiled some still, "You barely know me right now," he stated. he watched her busy herself with the food, drawing a deep breath as he took in the smell of the cooking stew. Such a wonderful scent. "I'm sure you could manage to get into university somewhere to pursue that if you wanted to," he stated. "I'm sure you'd find work pretty quickly with this war going on..and you're what this new government is looking for."
He looked away from Amelinda quickly when someone new entered the room and he got to his feet quickly, helping the woman with the groceries, setting them down before they started putting them away. He focused his gaze on Johanna, giving one of those forced smiles, his palms sweating with a nervousness as he now had to meet someone new, "Pleasure to meet you, ma'am," he said immediately. He glanced at Amelinda briefly, picking up his jacket, pulling out the star.

Amelinda watched Jonas when Johanna came in, wondering how he would react to her there. "This 'government' is wrong and I won't be going to any university at all while this government is in place," she stated as she finished helping Johanna put the groceries away. She knew Johanna wouldn't care that Jonas was Jewish, she wasn't like that. She didn't care what a person looked like, only what was inside them. "Dinner is almost done so you can just sew that. I have things under control here."
Johanna nodded to Amelinda's words. "Of course," she said. She looked to Jonas and smiled at him warmly. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well," she said to him, studying his face briefly before reaching out to take the jacket and star from him. "This won't take long at all. I can have it back to you before supper," she told him.

Jonas smiled slightly, "Well, what will you do if this government is never over thrown? You'll never be able to become a doctor then," he stated, watching as they finished putting the groceries away. He shifted his gaze to Johanna again while she took his jacket and star. He licked his once again dry lips, unable to help feeling nervous again, "Thank you," he said quietly, giving her a tiny smile.

Amelinda frowned somewhat as she thought about that. "Well then I'll just help people in my own way and I'll have the satisfaction of knowing that they never were able to control me in one way or another." She shrugged her shoulders slightly. "I'm sure there are ways that I could be more helpful than if I were to be a doctor.."
Johanna took the star and jacket into another room to sew the star back on so Jonas could have his jacket back before supper as she had said. She glanced behind herself as she left the room, watching Amelinda for a minute, smiling briefly to herself.

Jonas shrugged slightly, watching her with a somewhat different look in his eyes, "Maybe you can.." he said after a moment. "Or you will be able to.." He gave her a slight smile, "What sorts of ways do you think you could help someone? More so than if you were a doctor?" He leaned back in his seat, stretching his legs out in front of him.

Amelinda thought about it for a while before thinking of an answer to his question. "Well, I suppose that being a doctor is probably the most logically helpful way to.. help someone, but there are other ways. I could give shelter and food to those that don't have it. I would offer my house up to anybody who needs somewhere to stay.. somewhere to hide.." she said slowly, still thinking it through. "I'm not really sure how I would help, but I would do everything I possibly could." She fell silent after that, finishing up the stew and working on making bread to go with it.

He sort of smiled, "So your way of helping is doing what you're doing now for me," he said quietly. He shrugged slightly, "That'd be a good way to help anyone. Giving them a place to stay and hide," he stated. He watched her a moment, "It could get you in trouble though. I don't want to even imagine what they'd do to you if they found out you were helping anyone they wanted to get rid of," he said quietly.
