Faxon ignored the aimed at him. Why was she fighting him like this? He sat down at the small wooden table, offering her the seat next to him, and thought about lighting a cigarette. Situations like this called for a smoky room, for some reason. He wasn't going to fight years of interrogation practice, but he want in the mood for the adrenaline.
"What did he tell you, Lady?" He asked, looking over at her. Faxon looked at the prisoner shut behind the bars, wishing the guards had tied him up out here. Charles was harder to reach on that side.

Daniela sat down. She considered just coming clean with Faxon, but didn't know how he would react. They'd never really been in a situation like this before. She strummed her fingers on the table a moment, not speaking. She sighed, and smoothly went into a lie, "The Allies are planning an attack on Versailles." her fingers fell still, "Apparently they really want France back."

Faxon snorted. "So soon? Foolish of them." He looked the soldier over, suspicious. "But that can't be all?" Faxon said. "When do they plan to do it? How many forces? Exact bombing location. And where did he get his information from?" That was a lot to ask in one go, he knew, but he needed to be convinced. This all seemed a hokie.

Daniela smiled at Faxon, "Patience is a virtue." she said, "But I suppose all's fair in love and war." More than you know. "He's a major in her majesty's army." And my husband. "They plan to do it two weeks from tomorrow." Our wedding day. She almost laughed at herself but managed to keep her face straight. This subtext was not helping her. "Twenty bombers and twenty five sqaudrons of men." The ages we were when we got married. She wondered if Charlie would notice what she was saying.

Faxon blinked. "Where did he get his information?" He had to be sure. This would cost him more then his career if she was wrong. He very much doubted her method, believing there was only one way to be sure that what he said was the truth. There wasn't enough time, if what he said was true, to deprive him of enough sleep to make his brain soggy, and Faxon didn't have enough patience to talk it over. A bluff, then. That would come first.
"Lady, it's not that I don't trust you, understand, but this is a serious situation. What could it hurt to use double methods?"

Only a few times in her life had Daniela ever been this torn. She didn't want to lie to Faxon, especially when she knew it would ruin his career. On the other hand, she didn't want to risk Charlie's life. She was tired. She looked at Charlie, begging his permission without giving herself away.

Was she serious, Charles eyes went wide as they drifted to her. His mouth opened looking for words to say, she was serious!. Charles licked his again dry lips, tense situations made them dry. He looked to the German, the man also seemed serious, well he didn’t want to put Daniela into any danger he had done that to her in the past, but that was the past and he was young and stupid.
Charles knew he had to say yes to her request, if it meant torture or worse death to keep her safe…he would do it. He did love her, but couldn’t understand how she felt for this German. Charles gave a slight nod unnoticeable to the German. Here comes the storm, Charles let himself slump to the floor his eyes focused on nothing but the air.

Daniela smiled nervously back at Charlie. Her eyes stung a little, because she was scared. Looking back at Faxon, grasping for the words, "He... he didn't tell me anything." she said, "And I didn't ask." Her heart was racing with fear as she told this to her best friend. "Fax, I just can't do this to you. It would ruin your career and I don't want that. But you have to let Charlie go. Please." She had a pleading, sad look in her eyes, but all she could feel was the corners of them filling with tears.

"Charlie?" He repeated. Faxon's facial-expression didn’t change at first, and he looked deep into her dripping eyes, hazel vibrant and bewildered. She…what? Wasn’t kidding. The major looked back at the enemy, buckled down in the corner and watching nothing. It had a mask of complete vulnerability, waiting for his fate to be decided. The soldier Charlie wouldn’t put up a fight for his life now.
”What are you talking about?” He said. His voice was low, adopting a haunting tone, still watching the man on the floor.

She bit her lip. "Yes, Charlie. I want you to let him go Fax." she said. "I wouldn't ask if I had another choice, I wanted to leave you out of this. But you are stubborn." she said with a slight laugh.

”Stubborn?” Faxon’s eyes twitched, and he turned back to his friend, his face a waxy color. This was all part of an act, though he couldn’t see how. He desperately wished that was so, but knew it wasn’t. The Lady didn’t function this was; she really wanted Faxon to realize him.
”Why should I do that? How is freeing him of any importance?” His was trying to rise into a shout, and his muscles cried to lash out at her, but he fought them back.

She looked down, a tear spilling onto her hands. "It's important to me." she whispered. She wrung her hands together. This was hard. "Please Fax... he's my husband." the last part was barely audible.

The major drew his head back, narrowing his eyes and sneered. He looked between the soldier and the Lady, judging them. He closed his eyes, drew his fingers apart, and pushed his head forward. Not a foot away from her face with his head cocked to the side.
"You married an English soldier?" Faxon's voice was low, critical and seeking an explanation. Anything to get his brain kicking. His friend. His loyal and pretty friend. Married to a mongrel. "How?"

Charles grey eyes widened. "No daniela" he pleaded, his eyes searched her crying face. They then wondered to the nazi, what was he going to do?. Charles was ready for just about anything.

"Love doesn't take sides, Faxon." she said, "And we were married before the war." she went on, hoping this would be consolation and not anger him for never confiding this in him. For some reason, it felt nice to come clean with Faxon.
