Today had been an ordinary day for Annabelle. After making breakfast in the morning, she went to see to Elaine, who had been waking up at that very moment. Annabelle was a good mother-there was nothing she wouldn't do for her little baby girl, and it was never difficult for her to give up things for Elaine. As, for example, she had given up going out with her friends for many times just to tend to her child, who wanted 'mummy to stay'. Perhaps this was making Elaine spoiled, but Annabelle didn't find that fact something that should alert her. Her little girl was going to have everything, for as long as Annabelle can give that to her.
Elaine was a beautiful little girl three years of age. She inherited her mother's blond hair and big, gray eyes, which were resembled her father's ones in shape. She used to be a tad chubby, but now she was slimmer. During her pregnancy, Annabelle promised to herself she was going to find a perfect nutrition order for her child, so it would not be fat. Annabelle herself had a diet she stuck to for years. But when the little bundle of joy came to this world, Annabelle found it very hard to deny Elaine anything. So, for the first two years of her life, she ate candies at will. Now, the young mother started making order in Elaine's meals.
Luke was working, and lunch was ready, waiting for him. Annabelle would never eat lunch before her husband came home, although sometimes she would let Elaine eat if she was hungry. This meant almost every time, but surprisingly, today the girl wanted no food. She eve said: "Wait for daddy." This made Annabelle extremely pleased. What she liked more than anything was the persons she loved most to get along well and love each other. When watching Elaine and Luke play, she would feel tears of joy in her eyes.
Since Elaine wanted no food, Annabelle took the opportunity to take her out to fresh air. Since it was too hot for a walk, they chose to play in the yard. Elaine took out her dolls and Annabelle spread a pink blanket over the grass. She had to admit one-she enjoyed playing with dolls together with Elaine. The child was so imaginative she would think up such wonderful plots for the 'little people' anyone would like to join in. Annabelle even had a favorite doll herself. Her friends would often tease her about this, in a good-natured way, of course.
"Bob, you dishappointed me!" Elaine's little voice could have been heard as she imitated the doll. Annabelle joined in with 'Bob': "But Louise, I wanted to tell you I was a spy, I really did! Just that..."; Currently, Louise was a young woman that met Bob in a club. They started dating, and then she found out he was a spy. Annabelle was very proud of the way Elaine spoke: minor mistakes did happen(like dishappointed), but she was doing very well. They continued to play, both with smiles on their faces.

Christian was about to knock on the door when he heard voices from the backyard. Walking around the house, he saw his sister and his niece. Without making a sound, he crept up towards them, watching with fascination at their little game.
"You are such a good mother, Baby Sister." he said, knowing he would startle her. "Isn't Mummy good?" he asked Elaine, kneeling beside the child. "Can I play too?" he asked, grinning at Annabelle. It had been a while since his last visit and he had missed them so very much.

"You are such a good mother, Baby Sister."
As those words reached her ears, Annabelle knew who was addressing her. Still, mostly because she didn't expect it, she let out a loud exclaim. When she flinched, she hit the dollhouse, which would've fallen uf Elaine hadn't caught it. Smiling at her daughter, she turned to face her brother. The two were close, and he hadn't visited in a while, so she was very glad to see him. She wanted to jump up and hug him, but didn't, because he was already sitting down.
She was worried for him, since he was in the army. Annabelle tended to worry too much, but she felt that her fears were now justified. The army was dangerous enough without wars. When there were wars, it would turn deadly. Or so it was in her mind. Annabelle was thankful that Luke had a stable office job. She was sure she couldn't bare another person she loved being in constant peril, as she saw it.
"Isn't Mummy good?"
Elaine nodded her head, crawling over to hug her Uncle; "She is, Uncle Chris." The child was pretty fascinated by the fact Christian was a soldier, so she looked like she was ready to jump to questions. Annabelle smiled-perhaps one day, Elaine was going to be an interrogator. She knew how to get everything out of people...well, at least out of Annabelle, because she could not deny her anything. Christian, however, spoke first.
"Can I play too?"
The grin he cast at her made her feel like he was teasing her. Actually, she was sure he was, but she said nothing. She was too happy to see him. Elaine spoke quickly; "Yesh. You play Bob, the spy. Me play Louise, girl(she meant his girl). Mummy can..." The girl paused, thinking of the suitable role, "She can play Bob's wife, Tina."
Annabelle laughed and, as Elaine looked around for 'Tina', turned to Christian; "Well...you surely scared me." Then, a bit more serious; "How's the army?"

He kissed Annabelle's forehead. "Tiresome." he replied, accepting 'Bob' from Elaine. "Mostly desk work lately, and training of course. I was going to come visit you a couple days ago... but, uh..." he was blushing while searching for the words, "I sprained my wrist... and met this pretty doctor... named Jenna." he was smiling again, and his face was now very red.
"How have you been, Anna?" he asked, he resisted the urge to call her Belle Belle, like he had when they were younger. "Lainie and Luke doing ok?"

"Tiresome.Mostly desk work lately, and training of course. I was going to come visit you a couple days ago... but, uh..."
Annabelle raised her eyebrow, with a smile on her face. Did he do something naughty? Was he punished for something? This would have been funny, as long as it was all harmless, because she could tease him a bit...and she loved teasing her big brother. The smile was here also because of what hehad said. Desk work and training sounded safe. That was good. She wasn't about to mention it, though, or he'd accuse her of worrying overly again.
What if something bad had happened and prevented him from coming? What if he had been called to be informed that they'll ned him in the battlefield? Perhaps that was why he was hesitant to say anything to her, not to worry her...Trying not to show her concern, she waited for him to finish what he had started. In the meantime, Elaine brushed Louise's hair.
"I sprained my wrist... and met this pretty doctor... named Jenna."
Ooooh! So that was it! And he was even blushing. Looking at Elaine, and chuckling, she sang; "Oh! So Uncle Chris is in love..." She cast him a teasing glance. Elaine, however, was completey serious, and she looked at Christian; "Really? Is Jenny prettier than me?" Annabelle laughed again, shaking her head. The little girl was so funny sometimes.
"We're all doing fine...Luke works rather long lately, and Elaine's fine, as you see..."She paused, then went on with a question of her own; "Do you already have a date scheduled with this...pretty doctor?"

"No, of course not, no one is prettier than my Lainie." he said in reply to Elaine's question, throwing a 'quiet, you' look to Anna's comment about him being in love.. Then he listened to what Annabelle was saying.
"Well, we already went out for coffee. She took me to her place," he gave her a 'don't you even start look' as he went on, he knew that she knew that he was old-fashioned in that department. After all, this was only his second girlfriend. "I got sick. Weird, huh?" he asked, "So she made me stay, and then yesterday I took her to the bakery." he said, "But you weren't there..." he made a pouty face, "I missed you." he began to fake cry, covering his face with his hands. It was a game he played with Elaine, he pretended to cry and she would get all worked up.
(By the way, the last part hasn't happened yet, but it is in the process of happening lol... in another thread)

"No, of course not, no one is prettier than my Lainie."
Elaine produced a wide grin, standing up straight and holding her head high; "I am prettiest." Annabelle smiled,, happy for two reasons now: her brother was here and he made her daughter happy. Plus nobody could resist a smile when Elaine was there. She was sure that even the cruelest man alive would smile at least a bit if he had Elaine standing like a peacock in front of him.
As Christian was explaining what happened between him and Jenna, she waited for a chance to tease. But, he'd always warn her with a look or a move or something. Frowining, she waited for him to finish before voicing again; "You got sick? Very weird..." She raised her finger to her chin, to appear deep in thought, "I wonder...where did you sleep?"
Annabelle was well aware that Christian would not do anything with Jenna so soon. Still, she could harmlessly joke. That never did any damage and only made everyone feel better. Annabelle enjoyed making people feel better. If anybody around her was gloom, her mood would become such right away, so she always did her best to prevent such situations.
"I missed you."
The game was known to Annabelle, and at first she disliked Christian having Annabelle all panicky because he was 'crying'. Still, with time, she learned her daughter liked to 'console' her Uncle, and was rather proud-if anyone liked to console people, it was Annabelle, and this mean Elaine resembled her. Now, she just watched the child's reaction.
Elaine's 'peacock' look was gone, and in a moment she was next to Christian, trying to encircle her small arms around him; "Don't cry, Uncle Chris, don't cry..." Finally giving up the embrace, she leaned against him, looking at him with her light, almond shaped eyes; "I here now..."

"Oh ho ho!" he shouted, scooping her into his lap and tickling her, "Yes you are! I've got you now!" He was giggling along with the child and finally released her.
"Haha, very funny Belle Belle." he said, "I slept in her bed, but you know me." he shrugged. Any random bystander would think that meant he had gotten lucky, but he knew Annabelle would know better. He patted Elaine's head, "You alright there, kiddo?" he asked.

Elaine giggled as Christian tickled her, but then wiggled away, pouting. She was, as usually, playing the offended lady. At his question, she shook her head slowly(like she had seen Annabelle do) and addressed him in a tone supposed to sound reproachful. It was more comical in reality, mostly because of the orator. It was very funny to have a three-year-old lecture a 25 year old. This obviously did not bother Elaine; "You are acting uncording(she meant inaccordingly) for your age."
Currently, Annabelle was more interested in hearing about this Jenna. When Christian said he slept in her bed, she knew that he meant it literally-he would not have sex with a woman he knew for a day only. Most of his friends would, though, so she'd always expect for a change to take place within him. When it didn't, she was only happy. No women liked men that slept with every girl they saw. At least not for long, stable relationships.
"So...what's she like? Anyone I'd want for my sister-in-law?"

Christian ruffled Elaine's hair when she scolded him. "Someday, kiddo, someday you'll be able to scare the willies out of me. Until then, keep practicing." He turned his attention back to Annabelles question.
"Well, she's polite and well-educated. She's can be around my sarcasm without smacking me." he thought a moment before he continued, "She's charismatic. I mean mum loved her. Oh yeah, she's gorgeous." he said with a blush and a smile.

Annabelle liked the description so far. She only hoped that Jenna was not a stuck up person. She couldn't stand such, and would not try to be nice to one of them even for her brother's sake. But Christian could never like a stuck up woman, so she easily forgot about that worry. Annabelle knew him very well, so she could tell what kind of things he liked or despised. She was thankful for that, because she would not like to have to guess about something as important as that.
Perhaps all this thinking and all the seriousness would seem uncustomary to a neutral observer, and they'd think 'He just had coffee with her'. But, when it came to Christian, Annabelle knew that something like that was serious. He was not a womanizer, and was very old fashioned when it came to relations with the fair sex. She herself was not very different either.
"When do we meet her?"

He smiled, "You could have met her the other day, but no," he had a light, joking air about him, "The one day I go to the bakery, you're not there." he laughed. "Maybe I'll invite the two of you out for dinner. I would invite you in, but I don't think you'd like barracks and military rations." he said.
He danced 'Bob' around on his knee for Elaine. Smiling at her he said, "I have a present for you." then he glanced at Annabelle, "If Mummy says it's ok." he said, producing a lollipop from his pocket.

Annabelle laughed. This was ironical, for usually she was always at the bakery. The dinner proposal sounded very interesting...and Luke could come along too. If he would not, she'd feel as if intruding upon Christian and Jenna...but she would go nonetheless. Elaine could stay with her friend Margaret...since she was Elaine's favorite 'nanny'.
The lollipop made her frown. It was lunchtime soon! But Elaine seemed so happy when she saw it that Annabelle had to give in; "All right, all right! But no candies after lunch then!"

Christian smiled and laughed. He handed the lolly to Elaine. "There ya go, kiddo." he said. Patting her head lightly, he returned his attention to his sister.
"So, you and Luke been doing anything interesting lately?" he asked. He was always very overprotective of his sister. He had put Luke through the ringer testing him to see if he was good enough for her, now they were friends.
